Recruitment Announcement: Community Drug Distributors (CDDs) for the SARMAAN II Project The Strengthening Advocacy and Civil society Engagement for Results in Maternal and Child Health (SARMAAN) II Project, implemented by SCIDaR (Sustainable Comprehensive Initiatives for Development and Research), is seeking dedicated and motivated Community Drug Distributors (CDDs) to participate in the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign in Kano State. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to improving the health and well-being of children in your community. Role: As a CDD, you will be responsible for administering Azithromycin to eligible children between 1 and 59 months within assigned communities during the MDA exercise. This role is crucial in preventing and treating common childhood illnesses, ultimately reducing mortality rates and improving overall health outcomes. Key Responsibilities: • Administer Azithromycin to the target population in assigned communities, following all protocols and guidelines to ensure accurate dosage and administration. • Maintain accurate and complete records of all distributions, including the number of children treated, the dates of administration, and any relevant observations. • Educate community members on the purpose of the MDA campaign, the benefits of Azithromycin, and the safe use of the medication, addressing any concerns or misconceptions they may have. • Closely observe and promptly report any side effects or adverse drug reactions observed during the administration process to the appropriate authorities. • Refer individuals with complications, contraindications, or exclusions from the MDA to qualified health personnel for further evaluation and care. Minimum Qualifications: • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate. • Must be a resident of the specific ward or community to which you are assigned, demonstrating a deep understanding of the local context and community dynamics. • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Hausa, enabling clear and respectful communication with community members and healthcare professionals. • Prior experience as a CDD or participation in similar health outreach programs will be considered an added advantage, demonstrating familiarity with the responsibilities and challenges of community-based health interventions. The starting date is flexible; however, we hope to welcome our new colleague(s) as soon as possible, and no later than January 1, 2026. The duration of the positions is between 1 to 2 years, with the possibility of some extension beyond 2 years, depending on the starting date. The candidate will join an international team of researchers and will be involved in a prestigious EU-funded research project, the ERC Consolidator Grant “Born Once – Die Once”. The project aspires to work “Towards a transdisciplinary demographic theory of birth and death trajectories”. Knowledge and/or research interest in formal demography in general, and modeling and investigating age-trajectories of mortality and fertility in particular, are an advantage. This is an excellent opportunity for recent PhD graduates to apply their innovative analytical and/or statistical skills to venture into exploring formation (birth) and dissolution (death) patterns within populations of individuals (men and women) and collectives (couples, families, households) to discover and model macro level regularities that eventually shall help reveal general principles of birth, renewal, aging, and death. CPop conducts cutting-edge research on survival, longevity, and population aging, with a focus on policy, economic, and cultural implications.
