Crewing Manager

The Crewing Manager is required to:

  1. Assist the HR/ Crewing Coordinator with all crewing processes and procedures.
  2. Support the HR/Crewing Coordinator to handle monthly crew mobilization and rotation for all vessels.
  3. Handle crew logistics and accommodation and pre-inform crew onboarding date/ location monthly.
  4. Support the HR/ Crewing Coordinator with monthly interfacing with the manning agent.
  5. Upload crew documents biannually on the crewing portal based on the charterer’s requirements.
  6. Liaise with the issuing authorities to verify and authenticate crew certificates and licenses.
  7. Regularly update the seafarers’ pool with qualified seafarers, which can be drawn from to man vessels in the SSL fleet.
  8. Support the coordination of staff Offshore Safety Permit card renewal yearly.
  9. Update crew database quarterly and in accordance with client’s requirements.
  10. Handle all administrative tasks related to the biannual appraisal exercise for all staff.
  11. Support the prompt processing of payroll monthly.
  12. Liaise with the HMO/ Medical retainership for staff upon request.
  13. Assist in conducting recruitment, selection, placement, and onboarding when assigned.
  14. Conduct exit interviews for junior personnel.
  15. Work with the HR/Crewing Coordinator to keep a record of and process staff leave requests and approval.
  16. Involved in handling staff complaints/ grievances and escalating to management when required.
  17. Assist in renewing Organisational statutory certificates (PENCOM, GROUP LIFE, NSITF, ITF, etc.) and Vessel certificates yearly.
  18. Draft internal and external memos and letters when required to do so.
  19. Involved in community relations interface.
  20. Be responsible for your health and safety and that of others affected by your actions at work.
  21. Other duties as assigned by Executive Management.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Required 

  1. Knowledge of the HR value chain (end-to-end)
  2. Knowledge of relevant Marine labor legislations (MLC 2010, MIMASA requirements, etc.)
  3. Crew Management
  4. Recruitment and Employee Engagement
  5. HRIS
  6. Effective Communication skills
  7. Document & Records Management
  8. Business report writing
  9. Effective planning and organizational skills
  10. Crisis Management
  11. Should be able to use initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  12. Ability to manage relationships with seafarers effectively.

  8. 100% compliance with all company’s QHSE policies and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  1. University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, and communication or other related/relevant area. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  2. Relevant professional qualifications such as CIPM, CIPD, SHRM, or HRCI certifications will be advantageous.
  3. A Professional Diploma in Crew Management is desired.
  4. 2 – 3 years cognate work experience in HR practice and Crewing in a reputable Marine and/or structured business environment.
  5. Ability to listen, negotiate, influence all categories of people, and act calmly and reasonably even under pressure.
  6. Excellent communication skills.
