Call for Nominations: Nigeria Green Academy 2025 – Empowering Young Leaders for Sustainable Development

The Nigeria Green Academy, an annual program presented by the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (hbs) Abuja Office, offers a transformative opportunity for young and aspiring civil society activists, journalists, academic scholars, artists, and social entrepreneurs to enhance their knowledge, skills, and networks, enabling them to effectively address Nigeria’s most pressing governance and development challenges.

The Heinrich Böll Stiftung (hbs) is a distinguished political foundation affiliated with the Green Party in Germany. As an international network with over 35 offices worldwide and operations in more than 60 countries, hbs is committed to fostering democratic, socially just, gender equitable, and environmentally sustainable societies. The hbs Abuja Office serves as a people-centric green think-tank and dialogue platform, collaborating with activists and thinkers in civil society, business, and politics to stimulate public debate and action for a more inclusive and sustainable Nigeria.

About the Green Academy:

The Green Academy is a highly selective annual program designed for young civil society activists, journalists, academic scholars, artists, and social entrepreneurs who, in alignment with the foundation’s core values, are dedicated to strengthening participatory democracy, promoting human rights for all, advancing gender equality, fostering social justice, and advocating for an environmentally sustainable Nigeria.

Through a dynamic blend of formats, including visioning exercises, fireside chats, and advocacy skill sessions, the Green Academy provides participants with invaluable insights on socially relevant topics. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and refine their vision for Nigeria’s future, explore innovative approaches to achieving their goals, and enrich their knowledge, skills, and professional networks.

The Green Academy serves as a powerful vehicle for building a vibrant community of young Nigerians who are deeply committed to the foundation’s agenda and actively working towards a more just and sustainable society.

Program Details:

•  Dates: Mid-October 2025 (specific dates to be confirmed with selected candidates)

•  Location: Abuja, Nigeria

•  Duration: Five days

Who Should Be Nominated:

We are seeking nominations for outstanding individuals who demonstrate determination, passion, innovation, and resilience in their pursuit of societal and political change, particularly in relation to the economic, social, and political development of Nigeria. Candidates should be civil society activists, journalists, academic scholars, artists, or social entrepreneurs between the ages of 20 and 35 years old.

The Green Academy is committed to ensuring a balanced mix of participants, representing the diversity of Nigeria in terms of gender, geography, and identity. We strongly encourage the nomination of female candidates. HBS will select a total of 20 participants for the 2025 Green Academy.

How to Nominate:

To nominate a candidate, please send their name, phone number, email address, and a short bio (maximum 250 words) to green.academy@ng.boell.org. If the nomination is accepted, we will contact the nominee directly to request additional information.

Nomination Deadline: June 30, 2025

Important Notes:

•  Nominees must be fully committed to attending the entire duration of the Green Academy program.

•  There are no fees charged to participants. All program-related travel, catering, and accommodation costs will be covered by hbs.

•  If your nominee(s) is/are staff member(s) of your organization, you will be required to release them from their duties throughout the duration of the academy.

•  Please provide all required information for your nominee(s) as outlined in this call for nominations. Due to the anticipated volume of responses, we may not be able to follow up on incompl
