Technical Service Advisor (Automotive Diagnostics Expert)

  • Salary Range: ₦150,000 – ₦200,000/month

We are seeking an experienced Technical Service Advisor who is an expert in automotive diagnostics across multiple brands including Japanese, American, German, and Volkswagen vehicles. The ideal candidate must be highly skilled in diagnosing faults using advanced diagnostic machines and manual testers, capable of generating comprehensive inspection reports, and proficient at communicating with customers in a way that builds trust and drives sales. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently, solve problems intuitively, and contribute directly to customer satisfaction and business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Automotive Diagnostics:

  • Accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on all vehicle brands, including Japanese, American, German models.
  • Use diagnostic machines, scanners, and manual testers to determine faults quickly and effectively.
  • Perform hands-on inspections where necessary to validate diagnostic results.
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving automotive diagnostic technologies and software updates.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare comprehensive and detailed diagnostic reports for each vehicle inspected, outlining all findings, recommendations, and potential repair solutions.
  • Maintain accurate service records and data logs in the company’s database or service management system.
  • Communicate technical findings in layman’s terms to customers and colleagues when required.

Customer Relations & Sales:

  • Engage directly with customers, explaining diagnostic findings and repair solutions in a clear and confident manner.
  • Convince customers to approve high-value repairs and maintenance services by presenting the value and urgency of the work required.
  • Coordinate the drop-off and collection of customers’ vehicles, ensuring a seamless service experience.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers through excellent service and trustworthiness.

Teamwork & Initiative:

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high levels of productivity and accuracy.
  • Proactively identify areas for service improvement and communicate suggestions to management.
  • Support colleagues in the service department when needed, particularly on complex technical issues.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive diagnostics, preferably across multiple vehicle brands.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Japanese, American, German vehicles.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic machines, scanners, software, and manual testing tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear customer-facing language.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and complete tasks without constant supervision.
  • Proven sales and negotiation skills; able to confidently close high-value service invoices.
  • High level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office, service management software, reporting tools).
  • Technical certification (e.g., ASE, OEM training, or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory.
