Dr Nicole Zampieri of the University of Central Florida, is recruiting students interested in pursuing a PhD to join the Dendroecology and Disturbance lab in the Department of Biology.
The program will supervise PhD students in the topics of biogeography, dendroecology, and conservation biology.
Additional opportunities include analyzing trends in biodiversity and plant community change across Florida and engaging in conservation, management, and policy research that integrates Indigenous Knowledge and applied ecological science.

- Have a degree in a relevant field.
- Be interested in the ecology and dynamics of disturbance-maintained ecosystems, especially savannas, with a particular focus on fire and/or hurricane ecology and resilience.
- Be interested in exploring quantitative wood anatomy, such as assessing resin duct formation and other anatomical adaptations to fire, as well as remote sensing of ecosystems using tools like lidar (terrestrial and/or aerial lidar) to assess ecosystem structure and function.
