Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: University degree in development, social or political sciences, conflict management, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience. A high school diploma in the same fields with a minimum of 5 years of experience is also acceptable (essential).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in project implementation within conflict mitigation and community reconciliation (essential).
    • Experience coordinating stakeholders, organizing meetings, facilitating training, and working in post-conflict or crisis environments.
    • Previous experience in international organizations is an advantage.
  • Geographical Experience: At least 5 years of experience in Africa (essential).
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Hausa, as well as other local languages spoken in northwest Nigeria (essential).

Position Overview

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Project Manager for Peacebuilding / Head of Sub-Office, the Project Assistant will support peacebuilding activities across Katsina, Zamfara, and other northwest states. The role focuses on community engagement, conflict mitigation, and reconciliation under the EU-funded Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response & Resilience (CPCRR) program.


Role Objectives

  • Conduct conflict assessments and identify triggers, dynamics, and solutions.
  • Identify and engage key community stakeholders to establish Community Network Responses (CRNs).
  • Maintain a database of CRN members and organize regular meetings for coordination.
  • Support monthly meetings with Technical Steering Committees at LGA and state levels.
  • Deliver training sessions on conflict resolution and peacebuilding for community stakeholders and government actors.
  • Guide communities in creating conflict mitigation and reconciliation action plans.
  • Facilitate community workshops, town halls, and information-sharing platforms.
  • Ensure timely communication of conflict-related updates and progress.
  • Monitor field activities and prepare regular narrative and analytical reports.
  • Collaborate with local authorities, CSOs, NGOs, and facilitate capacity-building on peace initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Program Manager.

Key Competencies

  • Solid understanding of peacebuilding, conflict mitigation, and reconciliation practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • High attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with UN systems and knowledge of local conflict dynamics is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics, diversity, inclusion, and accountability.
