Description
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations including visual acuity tests, refraction, and slit-lamp evaluations.
- Diagnose and manage ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and refractive errors.
- Perform surgical interventions, including but not limited to cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation, trabeculectomy,pterygium excision, eyelid repairs, and other anterior segment surgeries.
- Carry out ophthalmic procedures and biopsies.
- Provide post-operative care and follow-up consultations.
- Offer patient education on ocular health, contact lens care, visual ergonomics, and safety measures.
- Maintain accurate medical records in line with regulatory and hospital standards.
- Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic nurses, and other eye care professionals for integrated service delivery.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives within the department.
Requirements
- Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOph) and/or the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS – Ophthalmology).
- Valid and up-to-date Annual Practicing License with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Minimum of 4 years post-fellowship experience in a tertiary or reputable eye care institution.
- Active membership in the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
